Welcome to PJ Ranch LLC

Member California Agricultural Heritage Club

Our ranch is located right in the middle of California’s agriculture rich San Joaquin Valley. Named by the Dutch Dairymen who settle here, the Amsterdam region provides the perfect location for raising healthy and hearty miniature cattle. We are an easy drive and located within two hours of the California Coastline, panoramic Yosemite or the splendid Sacramento Valley. Nestled among a scent of almonds and peaches, our calves enjoy frolicking in the splendor of year round pastures and our mild winters and warm summers foster an environment that is relatively disease free.

We started small, with just three animals, but what began as a second career evolved into much more. We focused on purchasing sound genetics from a number of reputable Miniature Hereford breeders. Our herd sire, KAP Handsome Gregory, can be traced back to Prince Domino and Husker Mischief. Both through acquisition and breeding, our small herd began to grow, and we soon realized that these animals provided us with rewards and opportunities that we had never envisioned. The calves we bred soon found their way to the winner's circle and we were extremely proud of their accomplishments. PJR Mr. Mischief, our first bull calf, won his class and division in his first ever show, and then went on to become a three time Grand Champion Bull of California and the Oregon State Fairs. His first offspring, PJR Babe’s Lil Mischief was the 2007 Oregon State Fair Reserve Grand Champion Bull.

Mr. Mischief wasn’t the only one in his family to do well in the show ring as his sister, PJR Callie Girl, won her class, division and Reserve Grand Champion Female of the 2007 California State Fair. As products of KAP Handsome Gregory, 2007 California State Fair Premier Sire and PJ Ranch herd sire, these animals are just an example of the excellent breeding program that we have on this ranch. Our current stock of females includes National Western Stock Show Reserve Grand Champion, KAP Baby Pudge Pudge, Oregon State Fair Grand Champion Females, KAP Barbie Ferrari and O5’s Miss April. These winning animals and a passion for the breed have brought some notoriety to PJ Ranch. Our distinguished visitors have been included in  such programs as ABC News with Charlie Gipson, Fox News, CNN and ABC News with Dale Yurong. Other recognition for PJ Ranch has included Premier Exhibitor, CSF, Premier Sire, CSF, and Premier Breeder, OSF.

We would love to talk to you about the advantages of Miniature Hereford cattle and the reasons why you don’t need to have 40 acres to raise small size animals; just one to five acres is enough to raise your own miniature cattle. They are a lot less destructive on the environment and are much easier to handle. Miniature Herefords are very efficient feed converters and require very little pasture; a little hay and good, clean water each day is all they need. With a reputation for calving ease and because of their small size they can be handled by women and children and make great FFA and 4H projects.

We look forward to hearing from you. If you would like to know more about PJ Ranch LLC or Miniature Herefords, please use our contact page or call 209-358-7123 or 209-617-2857.
